citronella toxicity: citronella is a component of many household floor cleaners,massage oils,mosquito reppelants and rodenticides.Although  its poisoning is rare ,children are prone to ingest it accidentally.Suicidal ingestion of citronella is common among adults .It has a peculiar fruity smell which can be smelt from a distance.Upoun ingestion usually emesis is induced within minutes.On absorption it can cause renal, hepatic,cardiac,neurological and gastic mucosal damage .Its fumes and aspiration of gastric contents can cause aspiration pneumonia.

                                                                                      On early arrival of the patient many schools of thought advocate gastric lavage else antiemetics should be given.Blood should be sent for blood gas examination ,haemogram,liver and kidney function tests.Patient should be ideally kept in the intensive care unit till stabilisation . fluid and electrolyte correction should be done urgently along with other supportive measures.
